Where does TaeKwon Do come from?
TaeKwon Do was originated by General Choi. General Choi is Korean. General Choi combined two martial arts together to form the basis of TaeKwon Do-Taek Kyon and Karate.


What do the different color belts mean?
The belts indicate the rank of each student in the taekwondo hierarchy. The higher the belt, the more respect is deserved.


Who is the highest rank in TaeKwon Do?
General Choi 9th Dan.


Why do students yell in class?
The yell is called a "kihop." It is used for many different things, such as: showing fighting spirit, focusing total concentration into the attack, focusing timing, breathing, movement, and power, and also, as an intimidation factor.


What is the difference between Karate and Taekwondo?
The main difference is that in taekwondo, you use 90% legs (kicks) and 10% arms (punches, strikes), whereas in karate, it is about 50/50. Another noticeable difference is that taekwondo is an Olympic sport, unlike karate.


Am I too old to start Taekwondo?
The answer is NO! Nobody is ever too old to start learning this martial art. There are some students that haven't even started to learn Taekwondo until after the age of 60. There is even a specialized program for those of older age who want to begin.Also, remember that young people have the advantage of youth while performing Taekwondo, while older people have more wisdom.
